Democracy

“Do you believe that most people in your country are well-informed about the government? Why/Why not?”

Leading a group of people is a challenging job, not to mention leading millions of people of all ages and professions. This is a task for all governments in the world.

In my opinion, properly informing people about the policies, structure of the government and elections is an essential duty for the democratic government. The more the government communicates to people, the better.

In Taiwan, students study the election system and the structure of government in junior high school. It helps the general public have a basic knowledge of democracy. It will help to run the system smoothly and to have a healthy political environment.

I think only dictators will refuse having well-informed people, because they are afraid of diverse opinions. This could lead to an extreme result, as the country might turn out to be either prosperous or corrupt.

"You can’t fool all of the people all the time.” said Lincoln. There must be a moment people become well-informed about what their government is doing. To prevent losing trust among people, I think the best way is to proactively provide clear information and messages. Earning people’s trust is the long term way to win power.
