Recently, several news outlets revealed that the abducted teenagers were found captive in Cambodia, and they worked for gangsters to defraud people out of money. The fraud scaled after the feeding frenzy in investing, because people were eager to earn more when they saw the prices go up in the financial market.
Police held up the “Work in Cambodia Is Dangerous “ boards in airports wishing to stop teenagers from falling into the trap. News and media broadcasted horrible real cases to raise people’s awareness.
To prevent ourselves from becoming the victims, we should know the risk behind huge profits. In this case, teenagers were attracted by the high salaries to work abroad. However, the working holiday hourly rate was impossibly high considering the economy in Cambodia. Media literacy is important as well, because disinformation is all around the internet. Any exaggerated profit in investment is mostly a scam, but if people had the awareness, we could prevent more tragedies from happening.
